NAIROBI, July 18 (Xinhua) -- After three attempts, Kenya's Olympic 800m champion and world record holder David Rudisha is finally ready to prove he's back to his best form yet again at the Monaco Diamond League meeting.
Rudisha, like world 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop, will be lining up at he Monaco Diamond League Friday night with an aim of running under the 1:42 minutes mark.
He is feeling his way back this season after the knee injury which kept him out of action for a year. His heading back to his best form as he won last weekend's IAAF Diamond League event in Glasgow Nike Epic React Flyknit Blancas Fusion Baratas , equaling Kiprop's 2014 best in so doing.
"I want to run faster. It is going to be a fast race and like any event I have entered, I always give my best. Monaco will be no different. But the focus is to get to the best level before the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next week," said Rudisha in a telephone interview late Thursday.
Rudisha's biggest enemy in Monaco will be Amos Nijel of Botswana, the man who finished second at the Olympic Games. He won in Eugene last month in a race that marked Rudisha's first race in a year.
Rudisha was seventh. Nijel still looks a severe danger in the 800m. He clocked 1:43.70 in Paris, and 1:43.63 in Eugene.
French runner Pierre-Ambroise Bosse, the fastest European this year, will also pose a threat, as will Duane Solomon of the United States, who won this event in Monaco last year, and former world indoor champion Abubaker Kaki of Sudan.
