With two offensive linemen retiring Germaine Pratt Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , changes had to be made to the projected 53-man roster." AnalysisBengals 53-man roster projection: Mid-preseason editionNew,146commentsWith two offensive linemen retiring, changes had to be made to the projected 53-man roster.EDTWe’re halfway through the preseason and only a few weeks away from seeing what the Bengals’ final roster will look like. Our last roster projection came out about three weeks ago, so some things have changed since then. Primarily, the Bengals have played in two preseason games, but there has also been a rash of retirements on the offensive line. The roster has more or less remained the same since our last projection, but a few fringe players have risen into or fallen out of the final lineup. Quarterbacks (2): Andy Dalton, Ryan FinleyThis is what many predicted early on, but Finley’s preseason performance has confirmed all doubts. Finley’s 75% completion percentage and his rating of 102.4 after the first two exhibitions is the writing on the wall for the now former No. 2 Jeff Driskel. The only way Driskel can make the team now is if Zac Taylor and the offense commits to using him primarily as a receiver/special teamer. Jake Dolegala will be probably be added to the practice squad. Running Backs (4): Joe Mixon, Giovani Bernard, Trayveon Williams, Rodney AndersonThere is an additional running back on this list because Anderson has been activated off the NFI list. While we haven’t seen any action out of him yet, he will get a chance to make his case this week when he makes his debut. His only real competition is Jordan Ellis, who has done well but is unfortunately on the outside looking in. He may be a valuable addition to the practice squad as well.Wide Receivers: (7): A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, John Ross III, Alex Erickson, Josh Malone, Auden Tate, Damion WillisWillis is added to the group because of Christian Westerman’s retirement (which we will talk about more later). Our last projection only had six receivers, but the Bengals carried seven last year, so they could roll with that number again to start the year with Green being out for the first few games. Willis, an undrafted rookie Germaine Pratt Jersey 2019 , leads the team in receiving yards this preseason and has been putting in great effort on special teams. The last two spots will come down to Josh Malone, Cody Core, Stanley Morgan, and Willis, but as it stands, Malone and Willis are in the best position to make the roster. Morgan would be a great practice squad candidate.Tight Ends (4): C.J. Uzomah, Tyler Eifert, Drew Sample, Mason SchreckNormally, the Bengals could want to only carry three tight ends. But with Eifert’s injury history, adding Schreck for the second year in a row would be wise. The group looks exactly the same from last year with Drew Sample replacing Tyler Kroft.Offense Tackles (3): Cordy Glenn, Bobby Hart, Andre SmithAs dilapidated as this group might be, this is the one position group in the roster with the least amount of competition. The only one who could have broken into this group was Kent Perkins, but he just retired, so there went that idea.Interior Offensive Line (5): Michael Jordan, Trey Hopkins, John Miller, John Jerry, Billy PriceThe only change here from our last projection is Westerman, who was placed on the Exempt/Left Squad list. His future is is uncertain at this point, but it looks like he’ll hang up the cleats pretty soon here.If the Bengals were going to replace him, they would add Alex Redmond. But between injury and an upcoming suspension Germaine Pratt Jersey Mens , he has done little to impress the new coaching staff. The Bengals only carried five interior linemen last year, so they might go that direction again.Edge Defenders (5): Carlos Dunlap, Sam Hubbard, Carl Lawson, Jordan Willis, Kerry WynnNothing here has changed pretty much since the offseason. Having both Willis and Wynn playing well this preseason makes cutting either of them tough.Interior Defensive Line (4): Geno Atkins, Andrew Billings, Ryan Glasgow, Andrew BrownWe only went with four this time around, and put Brown in the mix in favor of Josh Tupou. Brown’s versatility gives him the edge over Tupou, an addition to a superior preseason performance. The 53rd spot on the roster might come down to an undrafted receiver and Renell Wren, but for this projection there just weren’t enough spots on the roster. Wren is far from off the roster though, especially after playing 81% of the defense’s snaps last week. Linebackers (5): Preston Brown, Nick Vigil, Jordan Evans, Germaine Pratt, Malik JeffersonLast year, the Bengals basically carried seven linebackers because of Burfict’s suspension. However, the problems at the position won’t be solved by throwing more underwhelming players in the mix. Plus, with defenses being forced to go into the nickel more and more, and with a sheer lack of options, these five could be it. If five is the number, that last spot would likely come down to either Jefferson or Hardy Nickerson.Cornerbacks (6): William Jackson III Youth Germaine Pratt Jersey , Dre Kirkpatrick, B.W. Webb, Darqueze Dennard, Darius Phillips, Davontae HarrisWebb has quickly risen through the ranks here in Cincinnati, so this group looks set. Phillips has done great defensively this preseason, and it looks like he will be used in the return game pretty heavily. The only variable here is what they do with Dennard. If they think he can return to practice long before Week 6, they’ll take him off the Physically Unable to Perform list. Harris and Tony McRae could both make it if Dennard is kept on the PUP, but if one has to go, McRae is the safer bet. Safeties (4): Jessie Bates III, Shawn Williams, Clayton Fejedelem, Brandon WilsonThis should remain unchanged from last year, as no new additions look threatening. Fejedelem and Wilson’s special teams contributions make them some of the most valuable backups on the team.Specialists (3): Randy Bullock, Kevin Huber, Clark HarrisTristian Vizcaino was the only threat to change the balance of this group. He has been disappointing though, so it looks like the same crew will roll out for the third year in a row.NFL Week 5: Bengals vs Dolphins fantasy football sits and starts Last week, the Bengals were involved in a goldmine game for fantasy football players. If you started a Cincinnati or Atlanta player last week they likely performed well for you. This week, the Dolphins are heading to Cincinnati for a 1:00 p.m. ET matchup at Paul Brown Stadium, and while the prospects aren’t as good as last week, there are still plenty of players you should be starting in Week 5 from the Bengals and Dolphins for fantasy football.Must startsA.J. Green (Bengals WR): Green saved his fantasy last week with a touchdown in the final seconds. He ended up with four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. He also had another touchdown called back due to a penalty on the offensive line. Simply put, the Bengals are targeting Green in the redzone.Joe Mixon (Bengals RB): The Bengals lead running back returns this week, and Giovani Bernard will be out this week as well. This will be Mixon’s first game back since Week 2 White Germaine Pratt Jersey , and he is going up against the Dolphins’ defense that has allowed the fourth most points to opposing running backs, according to Fantasy Pros.Favorable matchupsTyler Boyd (Bengals WR): John Ross will be out against the Dolphins, and this may actually have a negative impact on Boyd’s production. Fans don’t notice how often Ross runs off coverage or his mere presence of speed opens up things underneath. The reason Boyd is still considered a favorable matchup? The fact that he will likely absorb most of Tyler Eifert’s targets now that the tight end is lost for the season. Boyd has become Andy Dalton’s only safety blanket, and Dalton has shown a willingness to target Boyd during key situations late in the game as well. Boyd is more of a flex starter this week than a WR2, but he should still be pretty productive in PPR formats.Kenyan Drake (Dolphins RB): Drake has been sharing the backfield with Frank Gore this season, but Drake is the back to play this week. The Bengals struggle covering backs out of the backfield and reaching outside holes to keep quicker backs in check. Drake could easily have a nice game as a flex play this week.Good but not greatBengals defense against the Dolphins: It isn’t an ideal start by any means. However, with the Bears defense on a bye and the Bucs offense also on bye, the pickings could be slim this week if you stream defenses. The Dolphins have major issues on their offensive line, and they have been known to be pretty generous with turnovers. You shouldn’t expect a game winning performance by them, but they won’t lose you the game at least.Dolphins defense against the Bengals: The Dolphins defense leads the NFL with nine interceptions, and their pass rush is also pretty decent. Again, I’d only pick them up if you’re desperate. They will likely allow the Bengals to score a ton of points, but the interceptions and sacks could keep them from putting up a stinker.Dolphins receivers: Miami doesn’t have one guy who Ryan Tannehill looks to consistently over everyone else. This leads to a pretty general unpredictability about who is worthy of playing. Out of Danny Amendola, Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant all have within 13 to 11 catches on the season. The Bengals secondary has given up some fantasy worthy performances this season though. It is a matter of which one will have it.It feels like Stills and Wilson are the safest starts this week. Wilson is very much a boom or bust play though. He is known to create that long play for a touchdown, but if he fails to do that then he doesn’t do much for you fantasy wise. Stills seems to be more consistent with his stat lines, but again these guys are dependent on getting a touchdown since none of them see a steady stream of targets.Andy Dalton (Bengals QB): Dalton is tied for second in the NFL with 11 touchdowns. The Bengals haven’t been afraid to let Dalton take a few shots at the end zone when they get within range. The problem this week is the Dolphins have allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, and they have consistently been able to take the ball away when opposing teams go to the air. It may be worth benching Dalton for a week considering how well the quarterback position has been doing so far this season.Just sit themFrank Gore (Dolphins RB): Despite the Bengals defense seemingly struggling against the run, Gore is not the kind of back they will struggle against. Agile and speed backs is what gives them trouble. The defense will have no trouble converging on Gore, especially with Vontaze Burfict back in the lineup. The only thing that could save Gore is a goal line touchdown.Ryan Tannehill (Dolphins QB): Tannehill has been pretty much a roller coaster ride all season. He has seven touchdowns on the season, but he played a pretty soft schedule leading up to last week when he was shutdown by the Patriots. There are just better options out there this week.
