As with any offseason Jason Pierre-Paul Jersey , there are a plethora of questions and scenarios to discuss when it comes to roster moves. It’s already a tough gig to wrap one’s head around, but it can be a lot tougher whenever it’s an entirely new coaching staff trying to evaluate and figure out what players will work out best. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers current cap situation and a lot of high-priced veteran players, it’s almost guaranteed that there will be some big moves made concerning the roster in the early stages of 2019. 1) Which big names will be let go?Gerald McCoy. Desean Jackson. Cameron Brate. Vinny Curry.Trust me, there are more. Those are the names of potential cap casualties this offseason. Even though all three of those players have had large roles on the team, there is no guarantee that they will be back with the new coaching staff.Tampa Bay doesn’t have a ton of cap space to work with in 2019. Teams generally set $8-$10 million aside for the draft, which leaves the Bucs even less room to operate with. Add in the potential contract extensions for Jameis Winston, Donovan Smith, Kwon Alexander, etc. - and it’s easy to see that moves will be made to cut down the spending in 2019.The Bucs have a big decision coming up with Winston in 2020. It’s inevitable that the Bucs will let some big names go this offseason, the question is - who will it be?2) The futures of Donovan Smith and Kwon AlexanderBoth players have flashed greatness and both players have also frustrated the crap out of coaches and fans. This one is tough. The offensive line and the defense were weak spots last season, so it doesn’t make sense to ditch two former starters. But Smith’s inconsistencies and the unknowns of Alexander’s recovery from knee surgery are two big factors that will play into the Bucs’ decision regarding these two. Franchising Smith would cost Tampa Bay around $14.5 million and franchising Alexander would cost around $11.6 million. That’s a lot of money for a cap-strapped team to spend on two players with question marks. Obviously, the Bucs can only franchise one of these two as well. Will Tampa Bay franchise one and let the other walk/extend them? There aren’t many that envy general manager Jason Licht when it comes to this decision. 3) Does Adam Humphries stay in Tampa Bay?He’s improved every single year and set career-high marks in 2019. But just like all of the other bubble players, it remains to be seen if Hump fits in with the new staff. There’s no reason to think he won’t fit in. He works his ass off, has a great reputation with Winston, and is a smart player who can work the hell out of some underneath routes. Adam Humphries deserves to stay in Tampa Bay, but will it happen?Photo by Julio Aguilar/Getty ImagesIt’s also important to consider the depth at the wide receiver position if Jackson is released. The Bucs will need production to offset his absence and Humphries can provide just that. New head coach Bruce Arians loves tough, team-before-me type players. He’s only 25 years old, but may be in the market for a big contract after a near-1,000 yard season. It’d be a surprise if Hump isn’t donning the pewter and red come September, but we’ve seen crazier things happen in the NFL.4) Did Cairo Santos do enough to keep his job?Bucs fans everywhere let out a huge sigh of relief after Santos came out and made 14 consecutive kicks (including both field goals and extra points) during his first three games as a Buccaneer. Santos finished strong Peyton Barber Jersey , hitting 12/15 kicks over the remaining four games of the season. In all, he finished 9/12 (.750%) kicking field goals and was a perfect 17/17 kicking extra points. He did miss both field goal attempts against the Saints and one against the Cowboys. Granted, the misses came from 40, 46, and 52 - but it’s still a bit concerning considering the fact that Santos struggled with getting kickoffs into the end zone. The lack of leg strength is worrisome. In today’s game, you need to score points from all over the field, so leg strength in a kicker is a pretty big deal.Just ask the Los Angeles Rams.Santos played well in 2018, but there is no guarantee that he will stay on the roster for 2019. 5) Who will back up Jameis? This is actually a pretty big deal. Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely to retire and even if he doesn’t, there is no guarantee that Arians will want to bring him back for another go. Winston can be volatile in his actions both on the field and off the field. It’s crucial that the Bucs find a suitable backup in case that a) Winston doesn’t show that he is the answer at the position for the long term, or b) Winston gets in trouble again and is suspended indefinitely by the league. And of course, the injury factor is at play, too. You never know when tragedy will strike during a game. Could Tampa Bay bring in Teddy Bridgewater to back up Winston?Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty ImagesRyan Griffin isn’t the answer, otherwise he would’ve taken a meaningful snap during the Dirk Koetter tenure. Arians will probably look for someone who has familiarity within his system, but it also wouldn’t be a bad idea to look toward the draft, either. There’s no doubt that Arians and his staff will have their work cut out for them during the offseason. The Bucs’ situation is very similar to the Cardinals’ situation when he took over in 2013 - a good mix of talented, athletic young players and veteran players who can compete when put in the right position. There’s also no guarantee that the Bucs will go 10-6 in Arians’ first year a la Arizona, but there is plenty of reason to have the confidence that he’ll put the Bucs on the right path if he can find the answers to these questions. BOOM! Fire the cannons! The Bucs beat their arch rival in the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday and man, was it sweet. Not only did they win, but they led for the entire game after building a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Tampa Bay made enough plays for the remainder of the game to finish with a 24-17 victory. Not only did it snap a three-game losing streak, but it was one of Jameis Winston’s best performances against a team that usually gets the best of him. That will surely help in this week’s grades Ryan Smith Jersey , won’t it?OffenseLet’s go ahead and talk about Winston. Coming into this last week, Winston was 2-4 against Carolina. His stats during those six games reflect the poor record. He completed an average of 62% of his passes for 268 yards, but held a TD:INT mark of 5/9. The Bucs gave up an average of three sacks per game and were outscored by an average of 24-17. How ironic is that they won 24-17?But anyway, Winston had another turnover-free game and made great decisions with the ball for the second week in a row. He was great from the pocket once again, taking sacks when needed and running any chance he had. It’s evident that he is using his legs more this year and it’s been more than effective. To put it into full context, he only carried the ball 33 times last season. This year, he already has 36 carries through just five and a half games. This does nothing but help as the season goes on. It will force defenses to hesitate on sending extra blitzers and it will keep Winston from making those deadly mistakes he has been known for over his career. Outside of the offensive line, who gave up four sacks on the day, the rest of the offense played pretty well. Adam Humphries recorded his fifth touchdown in as many games and the team finished just five yards shy of another 100-yard performance. They went 6/13 on third down and were 66% in goal-to-go situations. There were still issues with penalties (9/69) and the Bucs finished with only 18 first downs. After scoring on four of their first seven possessions, they punted the ball away four times in the fourth quarter. And there was also the Peyton Barber “fumble”, but everyone with a set of eyes knows that was a BS call. Overall Grade: 2.75 (C+)DefenseHot damn. Now that was Tampa Bay football. Four turnovers. Four sacks. A huge fourth down stop in the fourth quarter. Is this 2002?In all seriousness, while the defense did give up a ton of yards (444), they also made a ton of impact plays that changed the outcome of this game. Christian McCaffrey ran wild, but that was to be expected. That’s not an excuse, that’s just reality. But considering how many players this team had out due to injury, it’s quite remarkable how effective the unit was against Cam Newton and co. The Bucs were down Vernon Hargreaves, Brent Grimes, Carlton Davis, M.J. Stewart, and Chris Conte in the secondary coming into the game before Justin Evans reaggravated his toe injury and had to leave the game. Andrew Adams and Javien Elliott - a free agent and a practice squad player earlier in the season - picked Newton off a combined four times between the two. Mike Minter came in with a big sack on the first drive of the game. He was signed just three weeks ago. Tampa Bay held Carolina to just 3/8 on third down and as aforementioned Chris Conte Jersey , stopped them on a crucial 4th-and-9 late in the fourth quarter. The team still had trouble with big plays, allowing five plays of 20+ yards. They also disappeared in the third quarter, giving up 10 points and 148 yards on 19 plays. Considering what they were up against, it was a remarkable effort and one that should be treated as such. Final Grade: 3.5 (B+)Special TeamsI used to dread giving out this grade. Now, it’s one of my favorite topics to write about. It only took the latter part of the decade, but Tampa Bay has finally found a kicker. Cairo Santos was perfect again, knocking down all of his extra points and the lone field goal attempt. He still had some trouble getting the ball into the end zone on kickoffs (3/5), but the Bucs’ unit covered the two returns well, allowing an average of 17.5 yards per return. Anger finished with a net of 40 yards on six punts. In all, it was another good day for the unit. Final Grade: 4.0 (A) CoachingThis was easily defensive coordinator Mark Duffner’s best game of the season. The fact that the Bucs were able to come up with so many plays using so few players was remarkable and he deserves every bit of credit he can get. The offense, while it could’ve done more, did enough. A lot of what they were or weren’t able to do had to with injuries as well. But overall, Todd Monken and Dirk Koetter had a very effective game plan, taking advantage of the Panthers in the short-to-intermediate game. It’s also encouraging to see the players still playing despite what this season has been so far. The staff deserves some praise for that. Final Grade: 3.5 (B+) Overall Grade: 3.43 (B+)Considering the circumstances, it would be very fair to call this the biggest win of the season. A bad record, a plethora of injuries, turmoil, and a quarterback carousel is a deadly combination in the NFL. Teams can - and usually - mail it in after going through all of that for this long in a season. But that wasn’t the case Sunday and now the Bucs still have life in the playoff race. Overall Grade For The Season: 2.15 (C)
